Lake Michigan is one of those magical places that everyone should visit at some point in their lives. There are so many different things to see and do on the lake that most people don't even realize. Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes and is the third largest of these five. With 22.400 square miles in surface area, the Lake is also the fifth largest in the entire world! This Great Lake is surrounded by Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. If you are looking for assisted living in Illinois, living on the lake would be a great place to start.

Lake Michigan has twelve million people living along its shores. There are also many large cities located on its shores. Chicago is one of the most recognized cities that lie along the shores. Chicago is the largest city in the state of Illinois with 2.8 million residents. Most of the waterfront near Chicago is parks. Another large city located on the shores of Lake Michigan is Milwaukee. Milwaukee is the largest city in Wisconsin with a population of over 600,000 residents. The beaches near Milwaukee are generally rocky. If you need to get from Wisconsin to Michigan there are two different ferries that you can take.

For a beautiful and relaxing recovery from your surgery at the Bourbonnais Illinois hospital, the beaches of Lake Michigan are ideal for you. The beaches in Michigan and in Northern Indiana are known for their beauty. This area of the Lake is referred to as the "Third Coast". The sand is soft and off-white and the high sand dunes are covered in green grass and sand cherries. The water in this area is usually clear and cool even in late summer. Traverse City, Michigan is located directly on the Great Lake. Many people don't know that Traverse City is the Cherry Capital of the World. The area surrounding Traverse City also produces grapes and is one of the centers of wine production in the Midwest.

If you are a football fan, Green Bay is also located along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. Being so close to the lake, Green Bay enjoys four distinct seasons. For those of you who watch the Packers' football games, you know just how cold and snowy their winter days can be. If you plan on visiting Green Bay, you should also know that August is their wettest month. So if you are recovering from your Braidwood Illinois hospital stay in the month of August, you might want to find somewhere else to stay.
